Before I begin, allow me to make something crystal clear.
I genuinely care about black lives.Believe it or not, I actually care about black lives more than BLM cares about black lives.
How do I know that?
Try looking at BLM through a lens of common sense.
BLM solely protests the killing of black folk at the hands of the police.Unlike BLM, I actually care about the scores of African-Americans, nearly 6,000 to be precise who were killed at the hands of other African-Americans in 2015 alone. In the same year, only 258 African-Americans were killed by police gunfire, the vast majority of whom were lawfully killed.
Martin Luther King Jr once wrote,
“I have consistently preached that nonviolence demands that the means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek.”
-Martin Luther King Jr
The protests that BLM organises are anything but peaceful.
The looting, burning and collateral damage that riots cause affect countless black lives for months, even years.
Look at Ferguson.Look at Baltimore. For how long were ordinary black folk rebuilding their houses, schools and businesses?
Martin Luther King Jr firmly believed that riots were counterproductive and that’s exactly what they are.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the police are without sin.
When a police officer unjustly kills anyone, white, black or brown, the officer shouldn’t and in most cases doesn’t simply ‘get away with it’.
The Walter Scott case proved that and the Terrence Crutcher case proved that as well.
If you look closely at the vast majority of the police shooting, the suspect was either armed or acted in a manner that led officers to believe the suspect was armed.
The black community is among the most disadvantaged in the US.
The difficulties that the black community faces are numerous.
Crises such as the lack of housing, inadequate standards of education, unaffordable healthcare and widespread joblessness, just to mention a few.
The black communities’ anger is legitimate, just misdirected at the police.
To disregard every other crisis and focus solely on the small number of the unlawful police shooting of black people would be “comparable to blaming deforestation on beavers”.
To all those people who believe that Black people are inherently more likely to commit/engage in criminal activities than white people, be sure to read on!
As a Muslim, I believe God created every human equal.
Prophet Muhammad’s (Peace be upon him) last sermon emphasized that…
“There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab. Neither is the white superior over the black, nor is the black superior over the white — except by piety.”
-Prophet Muhammad (Peace upon him)
Yes, I do affirm the notion that African-Americans commit more crime in the US.
Though to claim African-Americans are naturally inclined to commit more crime than caucasians, frankly would be racist. The primary reason African-Americans commit more crime in the US is simply due to the unsatisfactory socio-economic conditions that many African-Americans live under.
When any community, white, black or brown is deprived of some of the most basic of human necessities such as adequate housing, a satisfactory education, affordable healthcare and an adequate income, the outcome is inevitably going to be what we are witnessing in the black community, no matter the race or colour.
After all, Daesh (ISIS,ISL, IS) came about due to the socio-political instability caused by years of corrupt foreign policies in the region as well.
People ask, “Why can’t you support BLM while still supporting the Police?”
You have to understand that BLM is an ideological movement fuelled by hate and vengeance.
Their Guru is a convicted cop killer on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.
As an organisation, they call for the killing of cops….
“What do we want? Dead cops! When do we want them? Now!”
“*Pigs in a blanket, fry ’em like bacon”
*Pigs being the police.
Both of those vulgar, vile and frankly disturbing lines were chanted at BLM protests.
And to top it all off, according to BLM’s co-founder Alicia Garza, since policing is a problem, the solution would be to abolish it altogether!
On the other hand, you have the police. The complete opposite.
Sworn to fight crime and keep the peace!
Just as it would be ludicrous to claim that it’s possible to be a patriotic British/American etc. while still being in favour of Daesh (ISIS, ISIL, IS)
It is just as ludicrous to support BLM while identifying yourself as pro-police.
Just in case you forgot, Daesh is a barbaric extremist militant group who not only calls for the fall of Western countries but also for the fall of Muslim countries who oppose their corrupted ideology.Brutally killing anyone who comes between them and their goal!
Does that mean that I believe ALL BLM supporters are hatemongering individuals who call for the killing of cops?
Simply put, NO!
There are some good people out there who genuinely aspire for a positive relationship between the police and the public
They’re under the illusion that BLM is championing for their rights, calling for equality and for the accountability of the police.
Just recently an unofficial BLM chapter held a friendly cookout with the police, to improve public relations.
It was swiftly denounced by an official BLM chapter as it was not “In line with [their] principles”.
This incident clearly illustrates the length BLM will go to turn ordinary folk against the police.
I’ve said it earlier and I’ll say it again. The police are not without sin. They have made mistakes in the past and will continue to make the occasional mistake.
If you give any human being a gun and a badge and demand that they patrol some of the most dangerous streets every HOUR of every DAY of every WEEK of every MONTH and of every YEAR, they are bound to make the occasional mistake.
“Every 58 hours, an officer is killed in the line of duty.”
You probably won’t hear that very much.
Much of the mainstream media is way too busy pushing out a crooked narrative that the police force are a racist, bloodthirsty organisation that enjoy killing Black folk for no rhyme or reason. Simply put, igniting a race war, even if it was a black officer who shot the black person.
